Week 7 already!

I can't believe we're already on the 7th week of the CAL already. This also means I'm in my 7th week of living in this house! All of it is going well, which is always a good sign.

I am loving my blanket at the moment, and it seems to grow a lot every week.

Here are this week's rows :)

And here's my ever growing blanket!

Week 5 of the CAL

I went to start this week's rows when I realised that I had missed the last one from last week!

So, I started with that.. and here was my blanket after last week's rows.

Now on to this week's rows..
A double crochet row..

The "Mirrored chevron" rows:

A row of half double crochet (HDC):

Another DC row:

Another HDC row:

And my blanket progress so far!

I really liked the mirrored chevron rows.. I love how they turned out!
I think they might even be my favourite part of the blanket so far :)
Happy with my colour choice with those rows too.
Definitely the right decision to add in the turquoise-y colour!

CAL as-we-go stripey blanket, week 4!

This week was relatively straightforward, mostly DC (US terminology) and HDC rows.
We had the addition of the bobble stitch this week though!
I liked the look of this in Hannah's post but mine just don't look as good!
They're not very bobble-y, but at least they provide a bit of contrast.
Hannah has stated that week 5 is a fun one, so I'm looking forward to that as I've already been enjoying what we've done so far.
The next instruction or guidance post from Hannah should be up tomorrow :)

Here are my pictures from the week (apologies for the low lighting in some - I usually crochet in the evenings after work)

I added a new colour in this week too. Just a subtle bit of turquoise. Hopefully I'll be able to use it for a thicker stripe this week and it'll stand out a bit more :)

Knitting and crochet blog week: day 1

The House Cup!

I'm almost certain that I would be placed in to the house of the bee. I very rarely stick to just one project! At the moment I'm making 2 crocheted blankets, a knitted mouse, some crocheted roses and some crocheted daffodils (and there are plenty of other projects flitting around in my head!). I'm trying to be less of a bumble bee though, and have created a word document on my computer for all the lovely free patterns I find online. Now, instead of going "Oo, I must start that now!" I try to add it to my little directory for another time (when I've finished a few of what I've already started). That didn't work with the knitted mice though.. I saw it Saturday and started it Saturday (thought I HAD seen it a while ago and dismissed it). Yep, definitely a bumble bee.

WIP: Rose number 2!

Here is the second rose!
This time, I realised that I'd incorrectly followed the pattern on my first attempt.. Oops!
So this one is much more like the pattern expects.
I also added a little bead, sewn into the middle, which makes it a bit classier, in my opinion :)
Can't wait to make enough for the project to come together!

WIP: Crochet roses

Believe it or not, this is actually the same rose..
I tweaked the brightness etc. on one because the stitches weren't showing up very well.
Anyway, these are going to be used for wedding things!
I need to make lots more though!

WIP: Hexagon blanket, width finished

It keeps growing!
I think this is how wide I'm going to keep it now.
You can see that it'll be plenty big enough to keep my legs warm on the sofa, when I've added lots more rows!
I don't know how long my green is going to last, so I'll keep going with the rows and when I think it's going to run out, I'll use a different colour with the black and grey.
Then it can be stripy as well as hexagonal!

WIP: inspiration

These little centres from my hexagon blanket look like they could make great eyes for things :)
Maybe I'll get around to designing my own crochet softies?

That could be fun!
If you have any ideas of what I could make.. let me know :)

WIP: hexagon blanket progress post 1

hexagon_blanket_owl

I've been making slow progress with my hexagon blanket, but it is this week's mission to get more done!
Also, what do you think about my owl blanket?
I think it makes a great background to projects as it is pale, but gives some interest with the owls...
Not too much though!
I want you to be able to see what I've made!

WIP: Plum coloured cowl

I told you I'd have to get some more of that gorgeous colour from my yarn pack!
Now this isn't quite the same colour, but it's pretty close and I'm happy to say that I'm actually making this cowl for myself!
I can't wait for it to be a bit bigger so I can wear it to work to brighten up my mornings :)
The pattern for this cowl can be found here.

WIP: Cushion number 2

I couldn't decide which picture to use here.. so I've used both.
The first one shows the stitches better, but the second shows the colours.
Again I've gone to Lucy's Attic 24 for her join as you go technique, which I love.
It gives a much smoother finish than the last cushion I did, and it's more fun crocheting the squares together, rather than stitching them all!

WIP: hexagon blanket

I found the pattern for these lovely hexagons on Lucy's blog Attic 24.
They looked so lovely I had to try them so hopefully this will get done sometime soon :)
The join as you go method was a little tricky at first, trying to get round all those corners!
I soon got the hang of it though.
Let's hope that green lasts me long enough..

WIP: Baby blanket

I posted the top picture the other day when I wrote about my lovely new yarn pack.
This has got another round of the plummy colour on it now, but the second picture is close to where it is now.
And, the final picture just makes all the colours look lovely :)
